I'm diggin' the checkered floor in Kate Spade's Manhattan kitchen (from The World of Interiors, December '06). I don't think a person would get tired of black and white checks. The brown ones, yes, but these are much more timeless.

I heard Kate and Jack play giant games of Chess, and some Checkers, on that floor. And then they roll around in their money.

What are the tiles -- vinyl, marmoleum, ceramic? I'd like to know because I'm trying to create a checkerboard pattern for my kitchen floor and was told that vinyl is too cheap looking. I'd rather not go for the cheap look, and this one looks fantastic. Please share details on the "how to" of checkerboard flooring, because it's nowhere to be found online. Thanks!

I have the vinyl floors and they look fantastic with my all white walls and cabinets!!!!! I used a wood table to add some texture and had the bold stripe made into curtains. Love it!
