Derby Party!

Derby_party_southern_accents_may__j

It's May and that can only mean one thing: The Kentucky Derby!  I'd love to have a derby party like the one featured in the the May/June '08 Southern Accents.

Ellen's Black Tie Bingo Party!

Black_tie_bingo_2

Brown Turtleneck Sweater reader Ellen saw my Black Tie Bingo post - and decided to throw a bingo party of her own! Dapper guests drank bar-tended martinis, played a vintage bingo game, and ate amazing food (beef tenderloin on mini croissants, crab cakes, mascarpone prosciutto and fig bruschetta, mini coconut cupcakes).  Ellen sent me the above pictures to share.  What a stylish event! I'm hoping to get an invite next year!! Thanks Ellen!

Tocca Holiday Candles

Tocca_vittorio

I'm in the Pacific Northwest for work this week - and this chilly Seattle weather is definitely putting me in the Holiday Mood!  I picked up one of Tocca's seasonal candles when I was out and about - the Vittorio scent, which is a great mix of pine and rosemary.  I can tell it's going to replace my typical holiday candle.  It's a much richer scent, without being overpowering. And Tocca candles burn forever! This baby would make a great hostess gift or St. Nicholas Day Shoe-Stuffer!

I'm not going to lie...

  Country_home_thanksgiving

I'm a little depressed.  I'm in LA for work this week, and instead of enjoying the weather (75! Sunny!), I'm sitting around feeling sorry for myself.  My entire family will be out of town for Thanksgiving this year, which means no big holiday extravaganza.  Have I mentioned it?  I love Thanksgiving. A lot. Planning-starts-October-1st a lot. I love everything about it: the getting together and being thankful, the food, the table, the menu. And even though I get a little nutty during the actual cooking part (so many dishes that need to be ready at once!), I'm bummed things will be different this year.  I know, I know. Embrace change! I'm working on it. I'm on the hunt for a volunteer opportunity. And who knows! I'm sure I'll miss my family, but this may turn out to be the most restful Thanksgiving ever. Black Tie Bingo

Black_tie_bingo_2

I've always wanted to have a Black Tie Bingo Party.  Sexy snacks and outfits, balanced by prudish cocktails and Grandma's B-I-N-G-O.  Anyone want in?  Images, clockwise starting in the top left-hand corner: Matthew Mead, Flickr, Budget Living and Elegant Bride.

Projected Movies

Projected_movie_country_home

I love the idea of randomly projected movies.  Haven't you seen those great magazine spreads: A movie in a field, projected on the side of an old barn, everyone sitting on blankets and eating popcorn?  Some neighbors in the building next to ours projected a movie onto the side of their place last summer - and I really wanted to invite myself over to watch. I've got to come up with a way to incorporate this into our next party!  I've been tossing around the idea of working it into the wedding somehow - the side of the tent would be perfect - but I've yet to have my ah-ha moment. These flats from Charming Gardener would make great menu cards for a dinner party (via Love Made Visible).
