M.F.K. Fisher and How to Cook a Wolf

MFK Fisher Gourmet

I'm in Seattle for work for a few days, and I always forget how much I love it here.

In honor of M.F.K. Fisher's 100th birthday, I had dinner at How to Cook a Wolf (a great little restaurant in the Queen Anne neighborhood that takes its name from Fisher's book of the same title). If you like food writing or just good food, I recommend both. Photograph from Gourmet.com by Paul Fusco/Magnum Photos.

Designer Kathleen Clements (I love her portfolio!) has opened a new shop in Scottsdale called Brady Gray.  The website is currently under construction, but check out the May '08 Traditional Home for some great shots of the store!

BUTIK

It looks like Helena Christensen and Leif Sigersen have started putting together a website for their West Village, NYC shop Butik.  The place looks really sweet.

Rococo at Cooper-Hewitt

   Rococo_cooperhewitt

I've been traveling for work for the past few weeks.  It seems like I haven't been home in ages and I'm really behind on my blog posts!  Speaking of traveling, Theo and I are going to be in NYC in the next week or so - and the rococo exhibit at Cooper-Hewitt is definitely on my to-do list. Rococo is one of my favorite design movements - so I can't wait to check it out!

Tocca Holiday Candles

Tocca_vittorio

I'm in the Pacific Northwest for work this week - and this chilly Seattle weather is definitely putting me in the Holiday Mood!  I picked up one of Tocca's seasonal candles when I was out and about - the Vittorio scent, which is a great mix of pine and rosemary.  I can tell it's going to replace my typical holiday candle.  It's a much richer scent, without being overpowering. And Tocca candles burn forever! This baby would make a great hostess gift or St. Nicholas Day Shoe-Stuffer!

Silverlake

       House_and_garden_elephant

Walked around Silverlake this evening, and I was inspired by the neighborhood's eclectic vibe.  For whatever reason - the visit made me think of this kitchen counter from my old magazine archives. House and Garden (I think!). Love the elephant, love the owl, love the cake stand. Love it.

I'm not going to lie...

  Country_home_thanksgiving

I'm a little depressed.  I'm in LA for work this week, and instead of enjoying the weather (75! Sunny!), I'm sitting around feeling sorry for myself.  My entire family will be out of town for Thanksgiving this year, which means no big holiday extravaganza.  Have I mentioned it?  I love Thanksgiving. A lot. Planning-starts-October-1st a lot. I love everything about it: the getting together and being thankful, the food, the table, the menu. And even though I get a little nutty during the actual cooking part (so many dishes that need to be ready at once!), I'm bummed things will be different this year.  I know, I know. Embrace change! I'm working on it. I'm on the hunt for a volunteer opportunity. And who knows! I'm sure I'll miss my family, but this may turn out to be the most restful Thanksgiving ever. Raspberry Meringues and the London Eye

Ottolenghi_1

I'm in London this week for work, and as usual, I've had only an hour of free time. I'm trying to appreciate every little moment: the view from my hotel, a brief walk down Kensington High Street, seeing Ray LaMontagne in the lobby, and the amazing raspberry meringue (above) I had from Ottolenghi's. Home tomorrow.
